Highway Code – Rule 80
Toucan crossings. These are light-controlled crossings which allow cyclists and pedestrians to share crossing space and cross at the same time. They are push-button operated. Pedestrians and cyclists will see the green signal together. Cyclists are permitted to ride across.
Hafezis comments :
There was a time when pedestrians and cyclists knew their respective role and strictly observed them. Not so any more. Cyclist regularly ride in breach of Highway Code and often as if the pavement belongs to them. Save for the Highway Code 80, highlighted above cyclists have an identical obligation to follow the Highway Code. Failure to observe could be breach of the code. Often breach of the Highway Code is a good indicator of negligence of the rider/driver. If you are negligent in causing an accident your liability is no different from that of a motorists.
Be careful on the road and observe the Highway Code.
If you are a cyclist and are involved in an accident either as a wrong-doer or as a victim, call me. Be happy to talk through your position at law without obligation.
